RE: The Republican "Mob"
Dear Madame Speaker,
I am outraged. I am saddened. I am hurt. I am ashamed. I am fed up with the name calling and "blame-game" tactics going on in Washington. I am a Republican. I have been for the last four years since I registered following my 18th birthday. I am a Republican not because it may seem like the cool thing to do, or because I want to play rebel, but because of my principles. I am a hardworking American. I was a hardworking student. I pay my taxes. I obey the laws of my country. I honor and deeply admire those who serve. Yet, the rhetoric coming from Washington has finally led me to be thoroughly angry with this nations leadership.
The recent accusations from the Democratic Party, the Democratic Congressional leadership, and the Democratic Administration has first and foremost offended me. I have attended some town halls, and some tea party rallies, and wrote to my congressmen, and made the phone calls. I have participated in engagement activities and read the news. I am an engaged citizen and I have obeyed every civil and moral law while doing so. Yet, I am, simply as a Republican, being accused of being part of a Mob? I assure you, Madame Speaker, concerned, active, and engaged Americans like myself are no mob. We are frustrated Americans. Frustrated because we see no accountability. We see no intelligent action from Washington. For example, at a time when one of the most pressing and dangerous pieces of legislation is about to be voted on in Congress, Representatives and Senators are refusing to schedule public forums to listen to their constituents concerns. Why are representatives of your House hiding?
As conservatives, we are being labeled as potential domestic terrorists! According to a Department of Homeland Security memo, young Americans like myself (which has never had more than measly speeding violation) were labeled as potential home-grown terrorists! Why was this report so biased? Why was the Department of Homeland Security not issuing memo's on potential liberal domestic terrorists? Why are AMERICAN citizens the subject of possible domestic terrorists threats!? Hundreds of thousands of Republicans/Americans/Conservatives like myself have demonstrated, engaged ourselves, and participated peacefully. By the way, the very 1st Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees organized demonstration.
More recently, individual Republicans like myself have been called Nazis. You referred to Americans yourself as Nazis and this came from the Democratic National Committee, "the repeated use of Nazi symbolism at community meetings by the Republican incited mob proves that these protests have nothing to do with health care, but rather that the Republican party is willing to sink to the lowest, most despicable levels to accomplish their goal of 'breaking' President Obama." Madame Speaker, I am not a Nazi. I am an American.
Madame Speaker, as a constituent of the house you lead, I am asking you to fore go the name calling and seemingly squeamish tactics to find blame for a rising unpopular health care reform plan. Quite frankly it is tasteless and shameful. I should not expect a national figure, from either party, to stoop to such a level and continue their disregard for the hardworking people of this country. In your own words, in regards to the outcry of disapproval towards the Iraq War, you encouraged protesters to take advantage of their 1st Amendment rights to the fullest. You encouraged dissent and described it as democracy in action. Speaker Pelosi, you were right. This is democracy in action. So why then are you being so hypocritical?
I hope that you will fully understand my pleadings and take them into consideration. I am not a piece of AstroTurf, Madame Speaker. I am a real American.
Cordially,
Barry Lucier
Citizen
United States of America
