Massachusettes Stuck With Another Liberal

Being a lifelong Massachusetts resident, I have come to expect that Senior U.S. Senator John Kerry would maintain his normal posture of being a liberal, but I didn't expect Scott Brown to be just as bad. We learn today, that Scott Brown, only days after voting to filibuster "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is on board with the Democrats to repeal it.

The victory of Scott Brown was a truly amazing one, and the entire nation stopped when they heard a Republican won in one of the most liberal states in the country. Scott Brown was the topic of conservation in Massachusetts for weeks both before and after the election. People across the country were amazed that a Republican, someone who campaigned as a conservative Republican on most issues, actually won a U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts.

After all of the hype surrounding the election started to fade off, us political junkies watched and have seen how Brown actually voted. Brown has stood firm on some critical fiscal issues, but as expected, eventually gave in to the democrats and a liberal view of public policy. I guess in Massachusetts you replace a liberal with a liberal, even if it happens to be a Republican.

  1. If his constituents want "don't ask, don't tell" repealed shouldn't he do that? Is he not their representative? They did not want an extreme liberal, but it is still a liberal state, to represent them you cannot be a true conservative. Besides, being in Rhode Island for even 10 minutes should tell you people definitely don't always follow party lines. Which I am sure you don't complain about when Harry Reid backs the opening of gun facilities and promoting gun rights in Nevada, which most definitely is not the usual liberal stance.

  2. I do very much agree with the fact that he should represent his constituents are one of his first and foremost priorities. However, his first priority is to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Our government is tasked with providing for the "Common Defense" of our nation. When our country is fighting two wars and in the middle of numerous other crises, this is the wrong action to take. 264,000 active-duty American soldiers said they would resign as members of our military if this was passed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not vehemently opposed to this, but it's not the violation some say it is. There is no equal protection violation here. These people join the military on a voluntary basis and must follow the rules. Why is the left not coming out against the military's respect of freedom of speech? You can't go up to a general and call him or her every swear in the book and not expect to be discharged. Same goes if you are gay and serving the military. There are certain standards the military must live up to to preform their duties in a manner that keeps them going and keeps us safe.

  3. Also, your comment regarding Harry Reid. For one, I don't even think he should be holding that office. He should be impeached as far as I'm concerned. He has made his fair share of openly passing unpopular and unconstitutional legislation and forcing it down the throats of the American people.

While he is normal very liberal and a rubber stamp for the Obama administration, I would support and action he takes that supports our Constitutional rights. I don't see why I would praise him for what he's supposed to be doing and not comment on his derogatory actions.
